Valappad is a village in Thrissur district of Kerala. It is located 24 km from Thrissur town in the Manappuram area. National Highway 66 passes through this village. As part of the National Highway development, the road passing through this area has been converted into a six-lane highway. There are 5 municipalities and 1 corporation within 25-30 km of this village. These are Thrissur, Kodungallur, Irinjalakuda, Chavakkad, Guruvayur and Kunnamkulam. Valappad beach is a major tourist destination. Valappad is also the birthplace of poet Kunjunnimash and director Lal Jose. Valappad was a village where a large number of fishermen and farmers lived in historical times. Fishermen lived concentrated in the west of the village and farmers lived concentrated in the east. During the foreign occupation, the land allotted for the construction of the church was equal to the size of the net used for fishing. It is said that this is how the village got its name, Valappad.
